The Village Centre Ltd was registered as a charity in January 2007 (charity number SC037829) by a group of community minded people in East Mains Baptist Church in East Kilbride. After a number of years of the church opening its doors as a Community facility, demand had increased to saturation point. This led to a decision to look at the possibility of expanding the facilities. This began with an investigation of the local area including who lives here, what do they need / want and what facilities already existed. The results of this research were collated and a business plan created based on its findings.

The Village Centre is the culmination of the efforts of a number of partners who have come together in the intervening period to ensure that the vision, aims and objectives are met. The Village Centre builds upon the existing partnerships that have developed and evolved over a number of years to provide a wide variety of services for the local community.

The Village Centre was established in order to create a centre for the community that promotes inclusion, inter-generational work and provides a home for a range of services that meet the needs of local and vulnerable people.

Our facility is headed up by a chairman and group of volunteer directors who each have varying levels of skill in business and local culture. Nadina Brown, our Centre Manager, deals with day to day operations of The Village Centre. We also employ a head chef, assistant chef, front of house manager, two café assistants for our café, and caretakers to make sure all rooms and halls are set up for groups arriving. Supporting our small team of paid staff are a group of volunteers from the local community who give their time to The Village Centre in many different ways. Without the help of these wonderful volunteers, our work here at The Village Centre would not be possible.

Volunteer roles in our café include:

• Serving customers and clearing tables
• Till operator
• Dish washing
• Kitchen assistant (assistant to the chef)

Full training will be given.
